The lake is the playground for activities such as lake cruises, water skiing, boating and fishing.
The extremes of the climate influence the many vineyards in the region with some superb wines resulting. Children are enthralled by the attractions and activities or you can relax at one of the boutique movie venues.
The region is a haven for outdoor sports; from rock climbing to trekking, mountain biking to sky-diving. There is something to suit all levels of fitness.
Wanaka's relaxed pace of life allows you to get away from the crowds and do your own thing.

Queenstown is also the international gateway to the region as Queenstown Airport welcomes flights from the east coast of Australia and offers many domestic connections.
Queenstown is only 1 hours drive from Wanaka over the most direct route, the Crown Range.
Alternatively travelling from Wanaka to Queenstown via Cromwell takes only 20-30 minutes longer but you can stop off the Cromwell area to visit wineries or taste the freshest fruits from the nearby orchards.
In winter you may want to pepper your Wanaka ski experiences with a day or two at Coronet Peak or The Remarkables. Year round the views from Skyline Skyrides are a photographers' delight or you may want to spend time on the rivers and lakes or exploring the many cycling and trekking trails.
