With so much natural beauty in Wanaka and the surrounding region there are plenty
of great free activities and attractions that you can enjoy on your Wanaka holiday. We have listed some free activities that you can enjoy in Wanaka:
Waterfall Creek Track: An easy 2.5 kilometre walk takes you by Rippon Vineyard and has great lake views before you reach Waterfall Creek.
Mt Aspiring National Park:
Beautiful scenery throughout the park can be further explored on a longer walk, but there are several spectacular spots only a short distance away. Take a two minute walk to see the 28 metre Thunder Creek Falls
or explore the Blue Pools on a 15 minute walk over a swing bridge.
Cardrona Hotel: Visit the historic hotel which was established in 1863 and is one of New Zealand's oldest hotels.
Rob Roy Track: A great half day walks through the Matukituki Valley taking
3-5 hours where you will see glaciers, waterfalls and experience the alpine surroundings.
Blue Pools Trail: An easy walk starting from the car park in SH 6 near Makarora. The trail winds through beech forest to a swing bridge overlooking the pools at the mouth of the Blue River. Large trout can often be seen feeding in the pools.
Wilkin Valley Walks: The Wilkin Valley, accessed from Makarora, offers a variety of walking options from the multi-day Gillespie Pass Circuit, to the half day fly-walk-jetboat combos of the Siberia Valley and the spectacular glacier lakes of the Upper Wilkin Valley.
