EXECUTIVE CHEF

Edgewater is a 4 star plus resort hotel situated on the shores of Lake Wanaka.  The hotel is independently owned and operated and has 103 guest rooms, two restaurants and two wedding and events venues.

We are seeking the services of a suitably qualified and experienced Executive Chef for this hands-on role.  The successful candidate will be highly motivated, passionate about food and have the skills to lead and develop a team of 8 chefs.

The position is available from 1 March 2016 allowing a month’s transition with the incumbent Chef.

Specific attributes, qualities and tasks required of applicants are:

  • demonstrable experience preferably in a hotel environment with both buffet and á la carte restaurants

  • the ability to exceed guest’s expectations while maintaining maximum profitability in our food offering

  • a team player with the ability to work well under pressure

  • a proven record of high end function catering

  • flair and passion for producing creative standout dishes

  • the ability to compile innovative á la carte, table d’hôte, wedding and event menus to suit the seasons

  • expertise in planning and organising the operations of the kitchen including roster preparation

  • the flexibility to work shifts including weekends

  • a thorough understanding of food costing, wage percentages and budgets and proactive control of achieving agreed targets in these areas

  • the ability to lead by example while mentoring, up skilling and developing a highly effective team

  • a clear understanding of and the ability to comply with relevant legislation including health and safety regulations, food handling, labelling and temperature control guidelines

  • excellent communication skills both within the kitchen team, with other operating departments of the business and with guests

  • to continually identify ways to improve efficiencies and effectiveness in our food offering and to drive the wider goals of the management team

  • an interest in and understanding of national and international food trends

This is a fantastic role for an experienced chef looking to work in a resort town environment.  You will be part of the hotel’s wider management team who are dedicated hospitality professionals.  The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary aligned with their skills and experience.
