Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy
Edgewater prides itself as a locally owned and independent lakeside resort in stunning Wanaka, New Zealand
Edgewater features 103 rooms of lakeside accommodation along with dining facilities. The properties’ design incites our guests to unwind and enjoy the natural splendor of Lake Wanaka, the clean mountain air and the southern warmth from our accommodating staff.
We invite our guests and local community to use Edgewater as a resource to “Touch the Seasons” and connect with nature through respect and appreciation for our local environment.
Ongoing and recently introduced initiatives include but are not limited to:
Careful curation of the products we use for our on-site facilities, amenities and in our food and beverage offerings are selected to prevent and reduce our environmental impact. Edgewater gives preference to local products and services where viable for both the property’s operations and the greater environment.
The introduction of The Hotel Weka recycling program offers a socially and environmentally responsible partnership keeping tabs on bathroom amenities and keeps waste to a minimum. Our soap returns locally to the supplier to be recycled. Further efforts to eliminate plastic products with alternatives is on-going. Each guest room features dual bins to support responsible waste management. A new door hanger offers guests a $10 food and beverage credit to our Wineglass café should they forgo housekeeping services on multi night stays.
Our corporate social responsibility looks further than the bottom line to the triple bottom line, where the focus is beyond profit and includes dedication to our commitment socially with our staff and physically with our environment. Our staff enjoys complimentary lunch daily, “Wellness Wednesdays” beginning with a free on-site yoga class, and volunteering at the local events we sponsor that tie in our commitment to our people and the planet.
The purchase of a Roy the Ram plush toy from our lobby shop, Lonely Tree Gifts, directly supports the Te Kakano Aotearoa Trust that specialises in propagating native plants for habitat restoration. Markers across the property identify native plants and trees with pronunciation in both English and Te Reo. We support many local causes and donate a hospitality scholarship to our local college that promotes excellence within our industry through our youth.
Our guest can enjoy a range of low impact activities such as mountain biking, tennis, mini golf, kayaking and volleyball. We offer a handful of yoga sessions to our guests and the community weekly. On-site access to walking tracks directly from the property follows the shore of Lake Wanaka and leads away from and towards town.
